Many of us in leadership positions are not truly aware of what influence we can have in the lives of others. If we kept that in mind, maybe we could be more effective in our roles.

"One's mission in life is determined by one's actions."
Dr. Robert S. Shumake --- Submitted by A.T. --- Michigan
I was reading through his book "For Entrepreneurs Who Considered Suicide When Business Got Tough" and this quote stuck with me. I had trouble always thinking about doing something instead of actually doing it. This made me go finish college and gave myself the attitude that the only way to achieve my goals is going out there and doing it, regardless of much time it will take me to get there.

"Life has taught me to behave like an eagle. It rises above the storm, avoids problems, has very good eyesight, never misses a catch and is dangerous. Apply all of these when you do things; you will outsmart even yourself."

With problems I encountered in life, I learned to solve them according to the eagles' behavior.

"Picking an assistant is easy. Just pick the person that calls the most after they've been interviewed, checking to see if they got the position. They obviously want it the most and are most likely more adept at getting what they want done for your company through persistence and drive."

"If you know which port to sail to, every wind is favorable."
Written in 2009 by Sumit Gandhi --- India
When I read the original quote by Seneca, he stated, "If one does not know to which port ONE is sailing, no wind is favorable." However, it sounded pessimistic to me so the modified version has been submitted. Until and unless we set our goals, we keep on investing efforts in not-so-important things in our lives. Once the goal is set and one becomes focused, one starts finding opportunities in each and every difficulty. God Bless All!!

"He who is your idol must have had his own idols. And you, who is reading this, can be somebody's idol someday. Aim to be one."
Written in 2009 by Sonam Bhatia Saluja
I have written this based on my own life experience. Actually, I have my own idols but I was surprised and amazed to learn that my own teacher called me her idol when I became a motivational speaker. She was also present in my classes and was happy to see people applauding my speeches and me.

"Diversity is dynamic; for as we grow our diversity changes. Our skills, personal attributes and attitudes all move with us. Our diversity flows through life with us, reflecting who and what we are, right now."

"With the right leadership and work environment, employees will excel."
Written in 2009 by Brenda Nyhus --- South Dakota
Oftentimes employees leave a job or are held back due to the leadership and work environment. If your employees like where they work and who they work for and feel valuable, the opportunities are endless.

"The pessimist says the glass is half empty while the optimist says it's half full. Maybe it's time you fill it up rather than simply looking at it and offering points of views."

It doesn't matter what you are inclined to be. Neither pessimism nor optimism will matter if you simply go and do what needs to be done. If you're a pessimist, then work on all the 'what ifs' a situation has and prepare for it. As an optimist, blast through all obstacles with every ounce of enthusiasm.
